My Story

Whether you’re the counselor/coach or the client, this is hard work – and I love it!

I fell in love with counseling in the 90s. Before I started graduate school, I was a bit lost career-wise. As a person raised and surrounded by entrepreneurs, I tried making it in various business settings but always felt slightly out of place – like there was someplace else I was meant to be. Due to a series of accidents mixed with a bit of intention, I ended up in a counseling program at The College of New Jersey. From my first class (Intro to Counseling with Dr. Mark Kiselica!), I was hooked.

I graduated in 2000 (at the top of my class, thank you very much) and worked at a Partial Hospital Program in Trenton, NJ where it was truly my honor to work with professionals who were kind enough to take me under their wings. I learned so much and was incredibly inspired by the clients who demonstrated such courage in the face of sad, frustrating, overwhelming circumstances.

After about 5 amazing years, I moved on to Rutgers University where I provided counseling and academic advising to struggling students. I got to support adult students as they made some of the most critical decisions of their lives. What an honor.

In some ways, leaving Rutgers was very difficult. I loved my work, my colleagues and all those wonderful students. But, I had one of the best motivators. I became a mother. While I personally know (and fully support!) many wonderful, powerful women who could have managed a demanding career and motherhood, I knew I wasn’t one of them. I couldn’t fully walk away from counseling, though, so after a few months, I volunteered to support other new mothers.

In 2012, I made a significant change in my life and decided to go vegan. I spent a year or so studying the lifestyle. I acquired a certification in plant-based nutrition from eCornell, Cornell University’s on-line certificate program. I met wonderful people in the vegan community and realized that this too was an area where I could apply my coaching and counseling skills. Making decisions that don’t jive with social norms can be hugely challenging so I started to offer virtual coaching and support which I still offer today.

That brings us up to date. I’m excited to offer my skills in a way that encompasses all that I’ve learned and honors where I am in my life now. If you’re in a place in your life where you could use the support of a compassionate, experienced and knowledgeable counselor, reach out to me.
